Lead Based Paint

Lead Based Paint Risk Assessment

Lead based paint was commonly used in homes prior to 1978. Over time, the paint can chip, break down, and mix with household dust, where it becomes an ingestion hazard for small children. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), lead based paint contains toxic metals that, when ingested, can cause a variety of health and developmental issues.

As a result, HUD requires a lead based paint risk assessment to be conducted by a licensed Lead Based Paint Risk Assessor for any project receiving $5,000 or more in grant funds or when agencies are administering state or federal funds for residential improvement projects.

Aurora Environmental LLC  employs certified EPA Certified Lead Based Paint Risk Assessors and is licensed by the EPA to conduct lead based paint activities.

Our lead based paint risk assessment process:

Interview with residents and visual assessment of paint conditions throughout the property.

Collect dust wipe samples within the residence and soil samples from bare soils surrounding the residence in accordance with HUD protocols.

XRF analysis of deteriorated paint films to determine lead content.

Review analytical results and prepare a risk assessment report that includes all identified lead hazards, options for hazard control, information on ongoing monitoring of paint conditions.
